The Feeling Blue project explores the relationship between the temporary real and permanent virtual through a simple time-based activity. By asking individuals across the world to create small sculptures, there is an initial translation from a non-physical idea to a physical reality as with all artistic creations. However, each individual is asked to create a sculpture using a material which, by design, resists retaining a permanent physical form. Hence, each small sculpture has a limited existence in its intended, ideal form. The easiest and most efficient way to document each temporary sculpture is to photograph it, thereby creating a permanent record of the work if only in a virtual state. The notion of virtual space is further amplified by posting all of these photographs of the individual temporary sculptures on a website, where not only the physical form of the sculptures' is transcended in space, but also in time due to the inherent nature of the Internet itself.
All of the participants are unified by their respective activity, in that they are using the same material to create 3D sculptures to the same end. There are no restrictions in the shape and form these sculptures take, nor is there a limit on the amount each participant can submit to the project. This too reflects the very nature of the Internet as a proponent of democratic principles and freedom of information/ideas.
Submissions
This online project seeks to display the temporary sculptures created intentionally or accidentally from re-usable adhesive. Your sculpture can be formal, expressive, abstract or symbolic, and any shape or form is acceptable for inclusion here, they can be rude, crude, lewd or shrewd. All that is needed from you is one digital photograph of each temporary sculpture. There is no limit on the amount you submit.
